Miracles! For Real. Every Single Day! (9-1-2014)

Hello all!

I sent some pictures this week! Me eating bread, and kickin’ it with Sister Lopez in Magoanine. You know, the usual.
I know I start basically ALL my emails talking about miracles, but you guys, MIRACLES! For real. Every single day! The Lord truly is blessing this mission, and these people!
Sister Lopez and I finished the transfer well. We worked to finish really diligently, and felt like the Lord was pleased with our work, and our efforts in reaching our goals. We ended the week physically and spiritually exhausted. And this week, we really saw miracles result from our hard work, and more importantly, from the Lord’s merciful hand. We invited our investigators, Emilia and Saucane, to pray about a family they could invite to learn more about the restored gospel. In the lesson, Emilia said, “Oh, I already know who I will invite!” The next week, she called us to give us the referral for the family. To our great surprise, it was their neighbors, the SAME family we contacted knocking doors that SAME DAY. Emilia had already invited them to church and given them a pamphlet. We met them THAT SAME DAY! And it gets even better. When we sat down in the first lesson with Delcio and Lucia, they started talking about their plans to get married and how they just wanted to sign the papers and have a festa (a big party) later. AKA: a HUGE hurdle already jumped for the missionaries. It was a powerful lesson. And then as we invited them to baptized, they eagerly accepted. I began to mark a date, but couldn’t remember (like, mind BLANK) what date we had chosen earlier in our companionship planning that afternoon. I looked at Sister Lopez for help, and she just kind of blurted out, September 27? Delcio and Lucia looked at each other and got really excited. “We marked our wedding date for the 26th! We want to do both on the same day. The 27th it is!” SAME DATE AS EMILIA AND SAUCANE! Later, we looked back at what date we had thought about earlier – the 25th of October. The Spirit had definitely guided us to change according to the needs and desires of this family. They are amazing. Satan is already trying really hard to inhibit the progress of our families, but we are continuing with faith and diligence. Milagres acontecem!
In other news, Emilia and Saucane and Bento and Isabel are both moving forward with wedding documents, and are hoping to open the process within the next two weeks. They are incredible families. And for the first time in a YEAR, (I’m sorry, I am going a little overboard with capitals this week, I think I’m just excited.) we have a new sister! Sister Bluker is from New Caladonia (sp?), a French Island on the Pacific Ocean, near Australia. Yeah, definitely did not know that existed before. I didn’t take geography, so sue me!
BUT, she’s amazing. She came in on Friday, and is already doing so well. She has SUCH a desire to learn and work hard. I love her already. I am so honored to be her trainer. Plus, she’s teaching me French, so, ganha ganha! (Je m’en fiche!)
In my studies this week, I have been thinking a lot about SUBMISSION to the Lord’s will. This aspect of his ministry is what the Lord chose to emphasize when he descended upon the Nephite lands:

“Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.

And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in taking upon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning.”

We see this submission in the Old Testament:

“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.

If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not  serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.” (Daniel 3:16-18)

BUT IF NOT. We trust and have faith that the Lord can do ANYTHING, but we also know that He is all-knowing, and that everything is according to His will. As we know, His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9).

And in the Book of Mormon, a most powerful example:

And they brought their wives and children together, and whosoever believed or had been taught to believe in the word of God they caused that they should be cast into the fire; and they also brought forth their records which contained the holy scriptures, and cast them into the fire also, that they might be burned and destroyed by fire.

And it came to pass that they took Alma and Amulek, and carried them forth to the place of martyrdom, that they might witness the destruction of those who were consumed by fire.

And when Amulek saw the pains of the women and children who were consuming in the fire, he also was pained; and he said unto Alma: How can we witness this awful scene? Therefore let us stretch forth our hands, and exercise the power of God which is in us, and save them from the flames.

But Alma said unto him: The Spirit constraineth me that I must not stretch forth mine hand; for behold the Lord receiveth them up unto himself, in glory; and he doth suffer that they may do this thing, or that the people may do this thing unto them, according to the hardness of their hearts, that the judgments which he shall exercise upon them in his wrath may be just; and the blood of the innocent shall stand as a witness against them, yea, and cry mightily against them at the last day.

Now Amulek said unto Alma: Behold, perhaps they will burn us also.

And Alma said: Be it according to the will of the Lord. But, behold, our work is not finished; therefore they burn us not.” (Alma 14)

Rathern than being a sign of weakness, our submission to the will of the Lord is the most powerful emblem of our loyalty, faith, and humility, whether we be asked to kill Laban, or leave behind our nets. His ways will always lead us to the Promised Land, even when submitting is hard, and we wont that we might not drink the bitter cup. He has asked us to submit to His will, and be perfected in Him.
Of our living Savior, and His complete submission to the Father, granting us life, I testify, in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen.

“Yea, even so he shall be led, crucified, and slain, the flesh becoming subject even unto death, the will of the Son being swallowed up in the will of the Father.” (Mosiah 15:7).

Love you all! Ate a proxima semana.
