Baptisms and a Breakup (2-24-2014)

Thank you for all your love and support this week. I was touched, strengthened, and uplifted, by all your emails. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers. It helps more than you know!

This week was great! We had the baptisms of Sandro, Sharon and Chelsea (the dad and his two daughters) and Laurinda, another youth. Sister Olander and I are still in shock of how smoothly everything ran. We had water at the chapel, clean baptismal suits, members ran the service, and the baptizees were so prepared. They knew exactly what to do, bore amazing testimonies, and Sister Olander and I walked away truly recognizing the hand of the Lord in abundance. We are being guided in amazing ways in our work with members, and we are working to bring less-active members back into activity. We are feeling the Spirit and are filled with gratitude and joy in our work.

We did receive a “break-up” text from one of our really good families (they are dropping us), which was sad. BUT, the work shall go on! The Church is STILL true, and the Lord is hastening His work. We will continue to find. This week, I was studying about Christ’s Church in the New Testament, and about Peter, Paul, and other NT missionaries. It has been amazing for me to see how the gospel we are living in our day is the SAME church, and we are doing the same work. In Acts 16, we read:

“And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.” (v. 14)

Just as in those days, the Lord is opening the hearts of His children to receieve the gospel. And this marvelous time of hastening, we can see this happening at an amazing rate. And this isn’t just happening in the mission field. It’s happening everywhere! For everyone! As we pray in faith, with discerning hearts, we can see and help those the Lord has prepared. They are there! They are only “kept from the truth because they know not where to find it.” (D&C 123:12) The Lord needs each of us. This is His grand work.

I hope you all have an amazing week! Love from Maputo! (Watch for pictures! I will send some later today.)

(I was also studying this week about retention – what each member and recent convert needs to stay active. Christ’s Church has the answer! See Acts 2:41-47).
